Business News for the Columbia River Gorge

Columbia Arts Building Fund Progressing
- July 20, 2004

Columbia Arts is quickly closing in on the first fundraising goal, the
purchase of the building for the Columbia Center for the Arts located
downtown at 215 Cascade Avenue in Hood River. The Center will provide a 120
seat theatre, a large gallery space and studio classrooms. It will be the
future home of CAST, the local community theatre company, the Columbia Art
Gallery, and public classes, workshops and presentations.

A total of $575,000 has been raised, most of this through local, individual
donations. This has shown tremendous project support with over 360 separate
donors from the entire Gorge area to Portland and California.

"There are still a small number of Charter Memberships available for
donations of $5000. These will only be offered until the center is open.
Donations of all sizes are needed to make this project successful", says
Judie Hanel, Columbia Arts Executive Director. If you want to discuss
making a donation of any size, you can reach Judie at 541-387-8877.

July Murals at the Columbia Center for the Arts
Chloe and Ellery Hight painted this month's murals for the Columbia Center
for the Arts. The changing mural project provides an opportunity for anyone
to create and display artwork in this downtown Hood River location.
Materials can be provided. Sorcha Meek Paul is coordinating the project and
can be reached at (541) 387-2676.
