GORGE
GAMES ON TV Late last week Limitless Events & Marketing, the owner of the Gorge Games, struck deals with three television production companies. Extreme sports channel "The X Channel" was granted filming and broadcast rights to several of this year's events. The Miami based station is a 24 hour channel dedicated to extreme sports and broadcasts programming world wide through its affiliation with GlobeCast. Victoria Davis-LaPorta, CEO of the X Channel said "The X Channel will offer extreme sports for everyone. Our focus is offering the best extreme sports programming possible by using the actual participants, athletes and filmmakers who create the content. Our connection with the athletes is the key to this channel, and we have aligned ourselves with the top athletes. Our goal is to reach the multi-billion dollar market of underserved viewers who are passionate about these sports and show them the real extreme sports. Our viewers want to experience the action, and engage their passion." The X Channel production and filming crew will be in the Gorge July 10 - 17. Their main focus will be on the July 10 Skate Giant Slalom and Street Luge in Mosier; the July 11 Freeride Mt. Bike in Post Canyon; the Extreme Kayak Race & the Head to Head Race, July 15 & 16 in BZ Corner and all the windsurfing & kiteboarding events. The television company has also expressed an interest in filming several sports clinics including the Kids Kayak Program, the Kids Learn to Windsurf, Mt. Bike and Skate Programs. Sports celebrities will be on hand such as Climbing superstar Tori Allen for her Kids Climbing clinic being held at the Hood River Middle School on July 12. In a letter to X-Channel Peggy Lalor, Gorge Games founder writes "We appreciate your investment in our event and your coverage to continue to build our brand for the future. We believe this event provides incredible footage and programming that will help get your new channel off the ground. We will work to the best of our ability to help you succeed." Windtopia Productions have enthusiastically agreed to film all the sailing and possible watersport events. On their web-site the company says "Windtopia is a globally integrated, wind sport focused, media and entertainment holding company. Our mission is to bring wind sports and sailing content to mainstream media and entertainment." Several other television deals are still being negotiated but Nickelodeon will be filming the Jr. Windsurfing events and bringing with them Laney Hughes of Portland OR the 13 year old winner of a nationwide search to join the networks team of sport reporters.
