Business News for the Columbia River Gorge

Gorge Wine Celebration August 8th

The first ever Gorge Wine Celebration will be held Sunday, August 8th in Hood River. Sponsored by the Columbia Gorge Winegrowers Association (CGWA), this event promises to be a spectacular chance for wine and food-lovers to savor the taste of the Gorge.

"This event is an unparalleled chance for people to enjoy wines from wineries and vineyards all over The Gorge-come to one spot for the wines you would have to drive over 200 miles to taste," said CGWA member Robb Bell.

The Gorge Wine Celebration is a cooperative effort from Gorge-wide wineries and vineyards. The festivities will begin at 4pm on Sunday, August 8th and end at 8pm. The celebration will be at 4200 Post Canyon Road in Hood River. Take exit 62 from I-84 and follow signs to Flerchinger Vineyard.

The celebration will include wines from over a dozen local wineries and vineyards, including:

  • Cascade Cliffs
  • Cathedral Ridge Winery
  • Columbia Gorge Winery
  • Erin Glenn Vineyards
  • Marshal's Winery with Shady Grove
  • Maryhill Winery
  • Mt. Hood Winery
  • Pheasant Valley Vineyards & Winery
  • Phelps Creek
  • Syncline Wines
  • The Pines
  • Viento
  • Waving Tree
  • Wind River Cellars

The ticket price includes tastings from all wineries and food from local restaurants and caterers. Local musicians, Blue Trick, will play from 4-8pm. Additionally, attendees will have the chance to participate in a silent auction to win great prizes from local Gorge caterers, restaurants and recreation activities. Admittance fee includes food, music, wine and good cheer. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Contact Kate Dugan at (541) 296-2266 or your local winery to purchase tickets.

This event also celebrates the new Columbia Gorge Appellation, which took affect July 9, 2004. This designation recognizes The Gorge as an official grape-growing region, bringing recognition and adding value to the grapes grown and wines made here. The 280 square-mile Columbia Gorge viticultural area is located about 60 miles east of Portland, Oregon, straddling the Columbia River for 15 miles from west of Hood River to The Dalles, Oregon and west of White Salmon to Lyle, Washington.

Come, meet your local winemakers and grape-growers and celebrate the Gorge!
