Susan Huntington, Executive Directory of The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce, recently took the helm of the Oregon Chamber Executives (OCE). Huntington will serve as OCE president for the next year in addition to her duties for The Dalles Chamber.

Huntington has been the Executive Director of The Dalles Chamber for fifteen years.

Below are excerpts from Huntington's speech to the OCE October 25th in Pendleton:

Greg Walden
Congressman Greg Walden and Gary Grossman listen to Huntington's address

… "The singularly most powerful aspect of the Chamber is its ability to garner resources and manpower and direct both toward creating a healthier economic environment for their constituencies. Businesses that choose to remain outside this force still benefit from the efforts made by the membership but rarely consider how much more effective their Chamber might be with their membership and participation. "

… "The smartest businesspeople I know realize that the Chamber is a business tool and that they reap many more benefits through participation than apathy. Whether utilizing the amazing networking opportunities or connecting with the various government outreach programs, nothing pays off quicker than accessing the services of your local Chamber."

… "Virtually every Chamber Executive is well-connected in the community and region, knowledgeable and energetic. They are available to serve the needs of their members. All you really need to do is ask."

… "This election cycle has provided our membership an opportunity to work together to combat the efforts to abolish SAIF. The State Accident Insurance Fund is a critical resource for many of our members and, while we find ourselves seriously underfunded to fight this battle, we recognize that we must band together to make the effort. Today, it's abolishing SAIF, tomorrow it will most likely be tax reform. We must plan now for what is sure to be an onslaught of ideas to raise taxes on Oregon's business community. Start by joining your local Chamber, if you aren't already a member. Then, get active and get "in the know". When Oregon Chambers join forces, we're altogether better!"
