"This event is an unparalleled chance for people to enjoy wines from wineries and vineyards all over The Gorge-come to one spot for the wines you would have to drive over 200 miles to taste," said CGWA member Robb Bell. The Gorge Wine Celebration is a cooperative effort from Gorge-wide wineries and vineyards. The festivities will begin at 4pm on Sunday, August 8th and end at 8pm. The celebration will be at 4200 Post Canyon Road in Hood River. Take exit 62 from I-84 and follow signs to Flerchinger Vineyard. The ticket price includes free tastings from all wineries and food from local restaurants and caterers. Local musicians, Blue Trick, will play from 5-8pm. An art exhibit coordinated by the Columbia Art Gallery will feature artists work created over the next two weeks around wine and grape themes. These works will be on display and available for purchase. Additionally, attendees will have the chance to participate in a silent auction to win great prizes from local Gorge caterers, restaurants and recreation activities. This event also celebrates the new Columbia Gorge Appellation, which took affect July 9, 2004. This designation recognizes The Gorge as an official grape-growing region, bringing recognition and adding value to the grapes grown and wines made here. The 280 square-mile Columbia Gorge viticultural area is located about 60 miles east of Portland, Oregon, straddling the Columbia River for 15 miles from west of Hood River to The Dalles, Oregon and west of White Salmon to Lyle, Washington.
