Hood River Saturday Market looking for vendors -
upd Apr 2005

The Hood River Saturday Market will open for it's 14th season May 7th. The market is held at 616 State Street in Hood River, one block west of the library.

According to the Market Assessment done several years ago, the market averages about 1,650 visitors per Saturday. 53% came from local areas, 47% were tourists from outside the mid-Columbia area. Almost 60% of the people surveyed came to the market for both crafts and produce. The average amount of money spent by customers per market was determined to be $14,049. With 24 markets, this is a significant amount of investment in the local economy.

Last year the market supported about 171 vendors over the course of the season. They do not jury, as they know the market tends to determine what is going to sell and what isn't. They require all crafts to be handmade, while 51% of produce must be grown by the producer over the course of the season.

Cost to vendors is the registration fee of $20 per season and weekly booth fees of $18 for artisans and $15 for produce growers. The Hood River Saturday Market is a non-profit organization, not supported by any other agency or entity.

The Market is open Saturdays from May 7-October 8 with one Christmas Saturday. The Market opens at 9:00 a.m. and remains open until 3:00 p.m. Entertainment and activities are scheduled each week. Prizes for activities such as our annual Dog Costume contest, and Jalapeño Eating Contest are sponsored by local businesses.

New vendors are always welcome. For more information, contact Lynn Thompson, HRSM@gorge.net or 541-387-8349
