Information from the Cascade Locks Resort and Casino EIS Project Web Site
The Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation of Oregon (Tribe) propose to develop a resort and casino in the City of Cascade Locks, Hood River County, Oregon. On April 6, 2005, the Governor of Oregon, Ted Kulongoski, and the Warms Springs Tribal Council Chairman, Ron Suppah, signed a Tribal-State Compact as an initial step in the process of putting off-reservation land into trust for gaming purposes. The purpose of the resort and casino is to improve the Tribe's long-term economic and social vitality and self-sufficiency, both with respect to its government operations and with respect to its members, by allowing them to develop a gaming facility at a new location.
A date for release for public review of a Draft Environmental Impact Statement for this project has not been determined, but is expected to be in mid to late February, 2008. A 90-day public comment period will be provided when the document is released for public review by the Department of the Interior.
